Cool Head, Warm Head
This is a multi-layered portrait of Walt Disney. The background is comprised of many cut out images of Disney's famous cartoon characters. Each image was cut out and pasted together by hand to form a colourful and complex collage in the shape of a heart, showing the love the cartoon characters have for their creator. The actual portrait of Disney was created on fine quality cartridge paper using 0.3, 0.5 and 0.7 technical pencils for the initial drawing, then one royal blue colour pencil, to render all the tone and detail in the face and hair. Once the portrait and complex background collage was completed, it was then attached to the surface of a mirror, as an homage to the “mirror, mirror on the wall", part of the 'Sleeping Beauty" story, then finally framed with a beautiful decorative and ornate double layered frame. The crazy urban myth that Walt Disney had his head/body cryonically frozen when he died in 1966, was what inspired me to create this portrait. The rumour has circulated for many years, but has been proven to be untrue. But, I think it makes for a fantastic story, especially for a man who is world renowned for spinning fantastic stories himself.
