Michael Hayter Artist

I am a figurative artist working at Spike Island Artspace in Bristol, UK.
My work derived initially from experiences of depression, but has come to focus on power, vulnerability, isolation and the tensions between the animalistic and reason in human beings.
My influences are various and wide-ranging, but I count Goya as my greatest ally.
I have come to focus on the body as the nexus of personal, political, emotional and spiritual power and vulnerability - the very centre of what it is to be human.
